Senior Community Service Employment Program

The Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) is a community service and work-based job training program for older Americans. Authorized and funded by Title V of the Older Americans Act, the program provides training for income eligible, unemployed job seekers age 55+.

How does the SCSEP Program Work?

The Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) enrolls qualified job seekers in part-time, paid training positions at public agencies or 501(c)3 non-profit organizations in their local communities.

The purpose of the SCSEP is to offer a “stepping stone” back into the workforce. It is a transitional program; positions are not intended to be permanent, and all assignments are temporary. The program also serves a community service objective by supporting the partner agencies that host SCSEP trainees.

Wages

Participant training wages and other costs are paid by A4TD through funding from Title V (SCSEP) of the Older Americans Act, administered by the US Department of Labor. Participants are paid the minimum wage in their area on a bi-weekly basis. A typical training schedule is 20 hours per week. There is no cost to a partner organization for hosting a SCSEP participant.

Training

Program participants are required to attend periodic training classes and/or workshops to complement the training received at host agencies. All participants engage in computer training, and many also earn industry-recognized certifications while enrolled in the program. We help participants identify the training that will be relevant and useful to them, and support them in their efforts to complete that training and achieve their goals.
