After a period of pause due to funding delays, SCSEP participants are returning to training and community service. This program continues to provide older adults with opportunities to build skills, gain confidence, and contribute meaningfully to the communities they serve.
Alex Fizz, CEO of A4TD, shares:
“We are deeply grateful to announce that A4TD has received funding for its national SCSEP grant.
“This moment is more than a celebration—it’s a heartfelt recognition of the perseverance and strength shown by our participants and staff over the past four months. During this extended wait, many individuals were placed on leave, facing uncertainty and significant disruptions to their lives. We know this time has been difficult, and we want to acknowledge the emotional and financial toll it may have taken.
“Now, with this funding in place, our participants can return to training, reconnect with their communities, and continue building the skills and confidence that SCSEP fosters.”
SCSEP is more than a training program—it is a lifeline for older adults. Through paid, part-time training at local nonprofits and public agencies, participants regain dignity and economic stability while contributing millions of service hours to vital institutions such as schools, senior centers, and libraries. As Alex notes:
“SCSEP doesn’t just change individual lives—it strengthens entire communities. Participants contribute millions of hours of service annually, supporting schools, senior centers, libraries, and other vital institutions. Their work uplifts others while preparing them for future employment.”
A4TD is proud to carry forward the mission of SCSEP: empowering older workers through meaningful service and skill development. Alex emphasizes:
“At A4TD, we are honored to carry forward the mission of SCSEP: to empower older workers through training, support, and meaningful service. This grant allows us to do just that—with renewed energy, compassion, and commitment.”
To everyone who remained patient and supportive throughout this furlough:
Participants: “Thank you for your patience, your resilience, and your unwavering belief in the value of your contributions. We’re so glad to welcome you back.”
Host Agencies and Partners: “Thank you for your understanding, your flexibility, and your steadfast support throughout this furlough.”
A4TD Staff: “Thank you for your dedication, your perseverance, and your commitment to SCSEP through this challenging period. We’re grateful for your readiness to resume operations and continue serving our participants.”
With participants returning, SCSEP is ready to continue strengthening communities, supporting older adults, and fostering purpose and dignity through meaningful service.
Together, we celebrate a renewed chapter of training, service, and community impact—thanks to the dedication of our participants, staff, and partners.
