Job Details

The Rental Assistance Specialist produces technical and administrative work of a complex and responsible nature related to the overall day-to-day administration for a variety of HUD and State-funded rental assistance programs. Responsibilities include the determination of applicant/tenant initial and ongoing eligibility for rental assistance for a variety of state-funded programs. Excellent communication skills are required in working with applicants and program recipients.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION include:

In accordance with HUD Regulations, regulatory agencies, program specific requirements, and VSHA policies and procedures:

1. Manages waiting lists, meeting with applicants, reviewing completed applications, obtaining verifications, and determining tenant portion of rent.

2. Determines ongoing eligibility; processing lease-ups, and rent increases; determining adjustments to programming; and responsibility for individual caseload and managing deadlines.

3. Handles information requests, program explanations; resolves or refers any complaints or problems.

4. Communicates with landlords regarding changes in HAP amounts.

5. Prepares and maintains confidential applicant and program participant files.

6. Responsible for generating, reviewing and certifying required regular reports.

This position is covered by a Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Pay: $21.00 per hour
