Position Summary
The Fresh Rescue Coordinator is responsible for supporting the food shelf’s day-to-day operations, including procuring, transporting, and stocking the shelf with food. The Fresh Rescue Coordinator will interact with shoppers experiencing food insecurity with dignity and respect to create a positive experience. At times, the Fresh Rescue Coordinator may become involved with clients experiencing crises, and will need to maintain boundaries, identify needs, and make referrals as appropriate. This position is part-time at 25 hours per week, and works flexibly between the hours of 8am-4pm, Monday through Friday, but typically operates during morning hours. This job has a high level of physical activity and requires the ability to regularly lift over 50 lbs with ease, walk up and down stairs several times daily, and lift boxes on and off our box truck each day.
Due to COVID-19, Foodworks is operating with a contactless model and tasks may be different at this time, including an increase in data entry and reporting, expanded delivery to the greater Brattleboro area, and collaborations with a number of community partners and initiatives to ensure equitable food access to all.
Responsibilities
Client Support
- Support shoppers experiencing food insecurity with dignity and respect
- Build and maintain positive relationships with all clients
- Refer clients to case management as needed
- Maintain working knowledge of other food sources, including daily meals and food shelves
- Support clients in completing 3Squares applications, or being referred as needed
Daily Food Shelf Operations
- Support food shelf volunteers, often working with a diverse team of people
- Manage inventory, including the pick up, break down, and stocking of food shelf products
- Coordinate delivery or pickup of all food and non-food items:
- Weigh and record all food donations,
- Operate a box truck for pick-up of donations each day, primarily in Brattleboro but also as far as Wilmington.
- Responsible for coordinating truck maintenance including fuel, oil changes, and repairs as needed
- Responsible for keeping the Food Shelf clean, orderly and stocked
- Clean and maintain food shelf equipment
- Ensure all food and products are within expiration date
Data Entry
- Track data entry of all donations to Food Shelf
- Track data entry of all client/household information
- Track TEFAP and Commodity Box data entry
Key Competencies
- Able to have a flexible schedule and work additional hours while Foodworks Coordinator is away
- Comfortable driving a box truck
- Basic awareness of food presentation

- Extremely reliable
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work without direct supervision
Desired Qualifications
- Valid Driver’s License, and registered, insured, and reliable vehicle required

- Computer skills and experience with data entry required
- Experience working with vulnerable populations highly preferred
- Must be able to lift 50+ pounds at a time
