Ronald McDonald House Charities of Maine sponsors facilities that provide comfort for the families of pediatric patients and supports programs that directly improve the health and well-being of all children. The Weekend Relief position is a part-time, occasional, non-regular position that is not eligible for benefits. This is a non-exempt/hourly status position as defined by the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). This is an at-will employment position, which means that Ronald McDonald House Charities of Maine or the employee may terminate at any time, with or without cause or without notice.
General Summary: The on-site Weekend Relief person is responsible to oversee and coordinate the activities at the Ronald McDonald House Portland, Maine on an occasional basis in a manner consistent with the mission, policies and purpose of RMHC Maine for some or all of the coverage from 5 PM Friday to 5 PM Sunday, overnight coverage or evening shifts to respond to any emergency, situation and/or issue that may arise, and nightly security checks. The Weekend Relief person must remain on site for the entire scheduled shift, including overnight hours. Sleeping time is designated from 11 PM to 7 AM each 24-hour shift, and the Weekend Relief suite is available for use. The Weekend Relief person is entitled to three 30-minute meal periods each 24-hour shift, although the nature of the work will allow for frequent breaks during the day. This position is compensated at a designated rate of pay at $10.68 an hour and payments are subject to required employment tax with-holdings. Work is performed under the general supervision of the House Manager.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Ability to interact effectively, appropriately and professionally with staff, volunteers, families, support service personnel and the community. Ability to work independently to carry out and manage multiple projects under sometimes stressful situations. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations and exercise appropriate discretion.
Working Conditions: Primarily indoor services in a home-like environment. Light housekeeping duties, checking in/checking out families, answering the phones, and overseeing the shift volunteers and volunteer groups that come to the House. Some light lifting may be required. Ability to access all areas of the House and grounds, including going up and down stairs.
